Mckoy W asked:

you should get the ones with stuffing inside but even if your dog swallows something i dought he will die or get hurt.my dog eats little beeds sometimes.

Dog toys are made without beads in them and the eyes are cloth, not the kind in kids’ toys, so they’re safe. The thing I always do, especially with puppies that chew everything, is take out the squeaker if the toy has one. Dogs who chew a lot could easily swallow the squeaker. If it’s a toy you’re not sure of, it’s a good idea to take it away from the puppy when you can’t supervise.

Get toys of different textures - your puppy’s going to be teething soon and will need lots to chew on.

Watch out for them chewing up anything with stuffing, or batting. Like carpet, it can stuck in their stomaches and bind them up.

i would get a rubber toy stuffed animal toys tend to rip and the cotton stuff on the inside of them if swallowed can be very dangerous for your dog. also yes that is true the hard eyes puppies like to swallow to. and i beeds definitly is a no no.

one fun thing i do with my dog is give her icecubes we have hard wood floors and she chases it for a long time then can eat it =] or just a plain tennis ball is good

i have a german shepherd puppy and he had many toys all claiming to be dog proof but he chewed through them within a week . do not get toys that have small atachments as the pup could pull them off and choke . teddies are normally fine as long as they were made for dogs . maybe go to your local vet and ask them or a pet shop assitant they should be glad to help and give you good advise .
    good luck . hope i helped !

When you buy any toy, first make sure it wasn’t manufactured in China. Some dog toys were recently found to have lead paint on them. Also, periodically inspect his toys for fraying, holes etc, so that he doesn’t chew a piece off & swallow it.

One toy my dog has loved for a long time, is a Cuz! They’re almost indestructible, unless you have a very strong chewer. They come in different sizes, just make sure the one you get is not so small that your pup can swallow it or too big that it’s frustrating for him to get a hold of it. Warning: If your pup likes it as much as mine did–you need to be prepared for the constant squeaking!!

Online stores have them, as well as Petsmart, Petco, etc.

For a puppy you need to get hard rubber toys with no hanging bits to swallow, the hard rubber toys will be good for teething too

  9. dee a Says:

Stick with bones and things like that for it to chew on. You don’t want to risk him chewing a cloth or rubber toy and maybe ingesting some of it. The bones will aid in the dogs dental health as well.

  10. ♥PomMom♥®™ Says:

Rawhides and cooked bones are very dangerous for dogs. Usually dogs love to chew up stuffed animals to get to the squeaky part in the toy. Also, they love to chew the eyes and noses off of the stuffed toys, which can be dangerous and cause choking.

It really would benefit your dog if you got toys specifically made for dogs. But please, NO rawhides or cooked bones - the cooked bones splinter and can puncture the GI tract and both can cause choking.

That could be true.If your puppy bit hard enough into a toy with beeds the beads could spill out and the puppy could swallow them.I’d stick with the rubber toys. They’re safe

It really depends on what type of dog you have, and also, how well you’re going to look after them when they’re playing with a toy. When I first got my dog she was 2 months old (she’s a lab-shepherd mix, so she was pretty big to begin with) any who I gave her a beanie baby to play with, but I watched her carefully and when I saw that she chewed threw it to the part where the beanies are, I threw it out. Dogs love squeaky toys, but if you have an active chewer it’s best not to buy cloth dolls for your dog– the squeakers can come out and they can potentially choke on them. Most toys labeled for dogs would be fine– you’ll quickly learn what kind of toys your dog can or cannot have– for example, my dogs cannot have anything made of cloth otherwise it’s destroyed in 5 minutes, they also cannot have anything made of plastic, all of their toys must be rubber. They like to tear the plastic apart then eat it (it won’t kill a dog to eat string or plastic– but it will either a) make their **** stringy/colorful or b) make them sick and you’ll have colorful string filled puke). The best thing to do is to stick with toys made for dogs until your puppy gets older, and always watch your dog when s/he is playing with toys.

There are also some foods (and plants) to avoid Here’s a good website about it:

You also want to avoid giving your dog apple seeds they’re not good for them– but they can eat apples. Also avoid chicken/turkey bones, as well as all other cooked bones they splinter very easily and can get stuck in the diguestive track. Rawhide is ok– in moderation, and it should be just regular rawhide, not rawhide in a ball.

  13. pixie2321 Says:

Dont get anything rawhide ( greenies, pig ears, or rawhide) Anything that she could chew a chunk off of them choke on.
Also nothing with the soft beads in it ( I’ve never understood why anyone would want these anyway because they are horrid to clean up after ripped open)

Kong makes one just for new puppies, its blue and white and softer than your average Kong, great for teething and whatnot.

  14. Gianna Says:

My biggest suggestion is to stick with “official” doggie toys. I always recommend staying away from the rubber squeekie toys as a chewer can inadvertently choke on a small piece when ripping it up. Watch your pup with stuffed toys that have squeakers inside, as these can be a choking hazard.

Rawhide chews… supervise closely as small pieces can become lodged and a choking hazard.

Cow hooves. These are great but throw them away when they’re 1/2 used up. These can be swallowed and obstructed in the gut.

Small rubber bouncy balls (human kid toy). Choking/suffocation hazard. These are 100% not allowed in my home… I’ve heard horror stories and it’s not worth the risk.

That’s all I can think of. Use common sense and “think like a dog” when it comes to stuff they’ll enjoy chewing up and ripping apart.
